A new executive committee has been selected for the Nepalese Association of Victoria (NAV), one of the oldest Nepali community organizations in the Australian state of Victoria.
According to the election schedule, only one candidate was nominated for each position. As a result, all candidates were declared elected unopposed, Election Coordinator Hem Dulal announced. He said that all registered members were given the opportunity to file nominations, raise objections, and withdraw their candidacies according to the election timetable. Since no complaints or objections were received and there was only one candidate for each position, all candidates were elected unopposed.
For the upcoming term, the current Vice President Sudip Shrestha will take over as President. The Vice Presidents will be Tej Bahadur Karki, Krishna Chalise, Jenisa Gautam, Pradip Pandey, Saroja Shrestha, and Rajiv Wagle.
Pawan Khatiwada has been elected as Secretary, while Yagya Joshi will serve as Treasurer. The Executive Committee members are Shabnam Acharya Sigdel, Suraj Bhandari, Govinda Paudel, Kamala Bhattarai, Gita Adhikari, Sabina Adhikari Sapkota, Shishir Amgai, and Bijay Upreti.
Current President Ekindra Timalsina congratulated the newly elected committee and encouraged them to uphold the organization's proud legacy while continuing to unite and serve the Nepali community.
Victoria, which has the second-largest Nepali population in Australia after Sydney, is estimated to be home to more than 50,000 Nepalis. However, only 459 people are members of NAV. It has also been found that some registered members currently reside in other Australian states.
