NRNA Victoria Candidate Bibek Jung Khatri Accused of Assault, Police Investigating

Melbourne, Australia – July 22, 2025

Nepali youth Sijan Khadka has lodged an official complaint with the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Election Commission, alleging that he was assaulted by a NRNA Victoria candidate Bibek Jung Khatri who is contesting the upcoming NRNA Australia election scheduled for July 26.

Khadka reported to NRNA election commission that the incident took place around 1 PM outside a hair salon in Glenroy, Melbourne. He claims the alleged candidate, accompanied by several other young men, physically assaulted him without any provocation.

“The individuals involved were unknown to me, and I have no idea why I was attacked,” Khadka told KBC Khabar , a community news portal. “I was struck behind my ear and began bleeding heavily. After receiving medical treatment, I went straight to the police station and gave my statement.”

Chief Election Commissioner of NRNA Australia, Dilli Dhakal, confirmed that Khadka had filed a formal complaint regarding the assault. “I’ve asked the relevant state election commissioner to look into the matter. As it is already under police investigation, I’ve advised the complainant to prioritize his safety and health,” said Dhakal.

Victoria Police has confirmed the incident stating that a 29-year-old man from Lalor had been arrested and brought in for questioning in connection with the alleged assault. He has since been released pending further investigation.

Authorities are continuing their inquiries and have appealed to the public for assistance. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant video footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.

The alleged assault has raised concerns about the conduct surrounding the NRNA elections in Australia, prompting calls for a peaceful and respectful campaign environment.
