Coronavirus kills 73 Nepalis worldwide; over 5,300 infected

The number of Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) dying due to the COVID-19 disease has reached 73 as of Saturday evening (May 2, 2020).

According to the data compiled by the Health Committee under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), 49 Nepalis have died due to the deadly virus in the United Kingdom alone.

Similarly, the death toll of Nepalis due to coronavirus has risen to 15 in the United States, five people died in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), one in Ireland, one in Japan, one in Turkey and one in the Netherlands, as per the data.

Meanwhile, 5,247 Non-Resident Nepalis around the world have tested positive for coronavirus. The committee has also estimated that 1,570 out of the total infected people have recovered.

NRNA is working to distribute relief to the national committees in 45 countries with the objective to help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic. According to the data, more than 35,000 people have received relief from NRNA till date.

The Health Committee has been publishing an estimate of coronavirus infected Nepalis living abroad every Sunday based on the information received from three dozen Nepali doctors working in various hospitals abroad, Nepali diplomatic missions, branches of Non-Resident Nepali Associations and local organizations.
