At “Howdy, Mody” rally organized in Texas by Indian Prime Minister’s supporters living in USA on Sunday, Indian PM Modi was accompanied by US President Donald Trump, showering each other with praise. The rally was attended by over 50,000 people, becoming a rare mass for foreign leader on American land.
Calling the rally ‘profoundly historic event’, Trump was greeted with a standing ovation and his speech being interrupted by the applause. Trump hailed the duo countries relationship.
“You uphold our values, you uplift our communities and you are truly proud to be American and we are truly proud to have you as Americans,” Trump said to the crowd.
Modi, on the other hand, speaking in Hindi while Trump was being interpreted what Modi was saying at the time, started his speech “Howdy, my friends.” He told the crowd that he was impatient ‘to take the country to new heights.’ The event is expected to bolster the diplomatic relationship between the two nations.
While jubilant supporters of Modi had come inside the NRG stadium, home of the Houston Texan football team, dressing themselves in ornate saris to simple dhoti, the event was also witness to protesters against Modi outside the stadium.
Demonstrators protested India’s recent step to revoke Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, snatching the partial autonomy enjoyed by Muslim-majority Kashmir gathered outside the stadium.
