According to the information released today by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), in 2007, 66 women gave birth per 1,000 women, and in 2020, that rate has decreased to 56.
Presenting data from the first month of the Covid-19 pandemic, AIHD said that between 2019 and 2020, there was a 2.3 percent drop in births. The average age of mothers who gave birth in 2020 was 30 years and nine months, while in 2010 they gave birth at the age of 30. Australia has a higher proportion of mothers aged 40 and over, with 4.5 per cent in 2020 compared to 4.1 per cent in 2010, the report said.
