Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Doncaster police were patrolling Warrandyte area when they came across a stationary car blocking a lane on Yarra Road.
Police reached out to the driver and noticed the car was missing its front left tyre. Talking to the police, the driver said he had experienced a puncture, but neither he or his passenger knew how to change a tyre, therefore continued to drive.
According to report by Victoria Police, “the driver and his passenger, a 22-year-old man, both stated it was not their fault that they did not know to change a tyre and blamed society for not teaching them”.
Officers conducted a breath test on the 19 year old driver who returned a reading of 0.162 – his licence was immediately suspended for 12 months. He is also expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
“Both men were also issued fines for breaching COVID19 restrictions at a cost of $1652 each”, as per Victoria Police.
A return to Stay at Home restrictions for metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire area is in effect since 11:59pm, Wednesday 8 July 2020.
According to the Victorian government, residents of above stated areas are allowed to leave their homes only for four reasons:
- Shopping for food and supplies
- Medical care and caregiving
- Exercise and recreation
- Study and work – if you can’t do it from home
