Eggs Recalled over Salmonella Contamination

Bridgewater Poultry is recalling different batches of eggs which were sold in Woolworths, independent stores in ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS and Coles in VIC and SA. The eggs are sold with different brands nationally.

“The recall is due to potential microbial (Salmonella Enteriditis) contamination”, stated by Food Standards Australia New Zealand.

The affected eggs are Woolworths 12 Cage Free Eggs 700g barcode 9300633636982, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 600g, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 700g, Victorian Fresh Barn Laid Eggs 800g and Loddon Valley Barn Laid 600g (This product in VIC and SA only). The eggs with best before of 20 MAR 19, 23 MAR 19, 27 MAR 19, 30 MAR 19, 3 APR 19, 6 APR 19, 10 APR 19, 14 APR 19, 17 APR 19, 20 APR 19, 24 APR 19, 27 APR 19 and 29 APR 19 are affected.

“There are five Victorian residents identified with Salmonella associated with this recall”, said Dr Brett Sutton, Chief Health Officer of Victoria. Consumers concerned about their health are advised to seek medical advice.

According to notice issued by Victoria’s Health Department, “Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, headache, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting.” Usually Salmonella infection symptoms occur between 6 to 72 hours of consumption and last for 4 to 7 days.

Consumers are requested to check the products and return the affected ones to get a full refund. They are also advised to dispose eggs alternatively in rubbish bin and not to dispose in compost bin.

The Department has also warned consumers not to feed these eggs to any animals or livestock.
