Following World Health Organisation’s declaration of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) as a pandemic, Nepal’s government has decided to temporarily ban all visitor visas to Nepal. The decision will be applicable to both air arrivals and land crossings.
While it is generally advised to restrict travel during the outbreak, an emergency situation may occur where you need to travel to Nepal – especially for foreign citizens of Nepali origin. Should a foreign national have any sort of emergency, they are advised to contact Nepal’s Embassy in Canberra, or the respective state’s Consulate Office.
A visitor visa will be made available after the applicant is able to show proof that s/he has not contacted the novel coronavirus. For the purpose, the applicant will have to produce a medical certificate.
From 14th March 2020 onward, all Nepali citizens, Non-resident Nepalis and foreign nationals will also have to spend 14 days in quarantine.
