Mr. Chandra Yonzon, Honorary Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, paid an official visit to Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs,Honourable Pradeep Kumar Gyawali on Thursday, 20th of February, 2020.
In the meeting, Mr. Yonzon, on behalf of the Consulate Office of Nepal to Victoria, invited the Foreign Minister to visit Australia. Minister Gyawali, in response to the invitation, assured the Consul General that an official visit to Australia was being planned. Minister Gyawali shared his plans of visiting Australia and New Zealand either during the last week of May or the first week of June.
The Minister and the Consul General also congratulated each other on the successful completion of 60 years of Diplomatic Relationship between Nepal and Australia. Both the Foreign Minister and the Consul General expressed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries as well as their people based upon mutual trust, understanding and cooperation.
Honourable Minister Pradeep Gyawali had also visited Australia in April, 2015. During his 2015 visit, he had met with Hon. Robin Scott, then Minister of Multicultural Affairs of Victoria, and Ms. Samantha Ratnam, then Mayor of Moreland City Council. The minister also engaged with the Nepali community in Australia, however had to cut his Australian visit short because of the 2015 Earthquake of Nepal. Coincidentally, Minister Gyawali was addressing a meeting at the office of the Consulate General of Nepal to Victoria when the earthquake struck Nepal.
The Consul General also met with Mr. Shanker Das Bairagi, Foreign Secretary of Nepal. The Foreign Secretary commended the initiatives taken by the Consulate Office towards promoting Nepal-Australia relations.
Both meetings were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu. Mr. Yonzon was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Laxmi Yonzon.
