Melbourne, Australia – Police in South Australia have arrested 13 sex offenders accused of possessing child exploitation material during a statewide campaign to mark National Child Protection Week.
last week, the police went to 377 registered addresses of child sexual abuse and searched 267 houses.
Officers looked for any evidence of violations of the Child Sex Offender Registration Act. This includes creating internet user accounts to keep in touch with children. Acting Assistant Commissioner Stephen Taylor said 62 child sex offenders had been arrested or reported. 13 of them were found to have child abuse material. Six of them have been detained to appear in court later.
The police seized dozens of computers, mobile phones, hard drives and tablets in the operation for further testing. Similarly, two loaded guns and four marijuana plants have been recovered.
