Mero Nepal: With love from Melbourne

Melbourne, Australia:

Centuries ago, Prithvi Narayan Shah described Nepal and its people as “char jaat, chattis barna ko sajha fulbari” (translates to: a shared garden comprising of four castes and thirty six ethnicities).

Shah, when making the quote was elaborating upon Nepal’s unity in diversity.

United under Nepal’s crimson flag – the Nepalese trait of harmonious living has been exemplary since time immemorial. Today, more than a century later, Nepalis have travelled far and wide – calling new places their home – but they continue to be united under the crimson flag bearing the sun and the moon.

To celebrate this unity in diversity, and to commemorate the 12th Anniversary of the Consulate General of Nepal – Victoria, the Consulate Office has released a patriotic song titled ‘Chandra Surya Ankit Mero Desh’ on the auspicious occasion of Chhath 2020.

The lyrics for the impacting song has been written by popular literateur Niru Tripathi (Dev Lalita), composed by Nhyoo Bajracharya, a stalwart of Nepali music, and has been mesmerisingly sung by renowned singer Asmita Adhhikari.

The music video, which features Nepal’s vibrant multiculturalism and natural beauty, has been directed by Jeewan Rashaili – an ace filmmaker based in Melbourne. The video also features newcomer Samriddhi (Sam) Hada, Rahul Gajmer and various artists based in Melbourne.

Featuring a fluttering Nepali flag, and Nepalis from different ethnicities, the song and its video fills a Nepali with pride – in many instances creating a spirit of nostalgia and a deep yearning to visit one’s motherland.

The Office of the Consulate General of Nepal has dedicated this song to every Nepali residing in different parts of the world.

Hon. Consul General of Nepal to Victoria, Mr. Chandra Yonzon shares that “The Consulate Office has always been promoting Nepali culture, language, tourism, trade and investment. Based on the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Consulate Office, via this musical composition, has attempted to promote its motherland via a patriotic song. Wherever we are in this world, we will always love our birthplace as it holds significant importance in our lives”.
