A search-operation near Marysville, Victoria has concluded in a tragedy after missing man Poshik Sharma’s body was found by the police on Monday. The missing man, a 21 year old student at Swinburne University of Technology was of Indian origin. He was reported missing on Friday from Marysville, a rural town in Victoria.

Mr. Sharma’s death is not being treated as suspicious – it was reported the young man had stormed off after an argument with his mate’s from Duck Inn, a local pub. Police will prepare a report for the coroner, and Mr. Sharma’s family in India have been informed.

Earlier today, police were starting to worry after their search operation could not locate the young man – a worry which turned into a tragedy later in the day. Police announced they believed the young man may have been trying to hitchhike, after leaving the Marysville pub on Thursday afternoon, and investigators had changed their appeal for information.

“We believe from a witness account that Poshik has attempted to hitchhike away from Marysville back towards Melbourne,” Inspector David Ryan told ABC Radio earlier today.

Mr Sharma had not spoken to friends or family, used his phone or social media since he disappeared. A dam was earlier drained during the search, and a walking track and bushland searched to try to find him. More than 90 people from Victoria Police, the State Emergency Service, Country Fire Authority and specialist teams scoured the town, bushland and waterways as the search expanded at the weekend.
