Non-Resident Nepalis in Australia have handed over a cheque of 20,000 Australian dollars to the New South Wales (NSW) Rural Fire Service so as to help firefighters in their efforts to control the recent bushfires in NSW.

Organizing a program on November 22, the Non-Resident Nepali Association Australia (NRNA) expressed its solidarity with the firefighters by donating the amount to NSWRFS.

The program was attended by NRN central vice-president Mana K.C. along with NRNA president Keshab Kandel, where commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service Shane Fitzsimmons received the cheque.

Receiving the cheque, Shane expressed his gratitude towards the Association and said the amount would be immensely helpful to the 2,000 firefighters active in the state.

He further said, “The amount will be spent on the firefighters’ training, equipment and their services.”

NRNA had raised the amount through ‘Go Fund Me’, an online fundraising platform. Though the Association had initially expected to collect only 10,000 Australian dollars, it was able to amass double the amount. A total of 365 people had donated for the campaign.
