The controversy of Lalita Niwas arose when it was found that the land of Lalita Niwas was illegally acquired by individuals. NRNA (Non-Resident Nepali Association) has come under fire after it was found that the land of association’s building was also involved in the scam.

The issue was raised in the Oceania Regional meeting held by NRNA in Sydney, NSW on 11-12 May 2019. Addressing the meeting, NRNA ICC President, Bhaban Bhatta said that if the land of NRNA building is seized by Nepal Government which was legally acquired through government authority, the government should compensate the association.

“When the government has already waived the revenue through cabinet and later if the fraud is proved then compensation should be provided”, President Bhatta said.

Similarly, former President Shesh Ghale said, “All the documents have been publicised in media already. Those were the internal documents which was leaked to media. Other then that I don’t have any information.”

Further, he expressed that their feelings had been victimised and if they had known about the situation prior then they would have stayed away from it. “When we buy land in Australia, we trust the government with all the process. We trusted in the case of Nepal as well, but now we have started to doubt”, Ghale said. He further emphasised that he was ready to protect and work for the benefit of NRNA.
