Canberra, Australia:

Online bookings for Phase 1B of the Australian national Covid-19 vaccination program has begun – and Australian residents aged 70 and above will be receiving their jabs from Monday onward.

An estimated 1,000 GP clinics will start vaccinations from Monday, a number which is expected to rise to 4,000 by the end of April – around the same time Australia will begin mass production of its own AstraZeneca vaccine.

Phase 1B of the vaccine program includes residents aged 70 and above, Indigenous Australians 55 or over and younger Australians with underlying medical conditions. Jabs for frontline workers and other essential workers will be continued during this phase too.

Australia has vaccinated around 200,000 people so far, and the program is expected to accelerate in the new phase.
