Victoria has posted its 26th consecutive day of zero new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, suggesting the state has been successful in containing community transmission. Victoria is also celebrating its second day of zero active cases within the state.

Welcoming Victoria’s amazing feat in controlling its second wave of infections, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced it will open its state’s border with Victoria from December 1, 2020.

Congratulating Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews, its Chief Health Officer, and all Victorians, QLD Premier said “So it means on 1 December, Victorians can also come to Queensland and, of course, Queenslanders can go to Victoria as well. So very, very good news.”

The decision comes a day after Queensland announced its intention to open borders with Greater Sydney from December 1. Queensland was opened to residents of regional NSW from 3rd November, but was closed to residents of Greater Sydney Area – however Sydney siders will also be able to visit Queensland from December 1.

The decision, just ahead of the holidays is expected to boost Queensland’s tourism industry, especially in the Gold Coast area.
