Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and possible life threatening flash floods for people in Mid North Coast and parts of Hunter Forecast Districts in NSW.
According to BOM, “a low pressure trough off the northern New South Wales coast is generating widespread and persistent rain in the region.
It is likely to cause locally intense rain on the Mid North Coast today, potentially moving south tonight and Saturday.”
The focus of heavy rain during the next 6 to 12 hours is expected to be between Coffs Harbour and Forster (including adjacent inland areas), shifting to the Hunter region tonight or early Saturday morning.
In these areas, there may be periods of INTENSE RAINFALL, potentially leading to life-threatening flash flooding.
Roads are likely to be cut off by water, and there will be an increased risk of landslips over this period.
DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are possible along the coastal fringe of the Mid North Coast this afternoon and evening, and potentially the Hunter coast Saturday morning.
