It has been a little over 48 hours since MNTV Australia uploaded a cover version of Mari Jau, a popular Nepali song originally sung by Bikki Gurung. The cover, sung by Melbourne based artist Anjil Gurung, and featuring singer Gurung and Sheena Arjun KC as models, has amassed over 60,000 views.
The song’s popularity has director Jeewan Rashaili stoked.
“I have been monitoring the song’s popularity, and my faith in the potential for innovative and value based entertainment within the Diaspora has been affirmed”, Rashaili said to Nepalese Voice over the phone.
“Not only me, the song’s popularity also has other artists involved with MNTV Hall of Fame excited. Anjil, who has been active with his music can see new prospects opening up for him. Prashant Shrestha, whose cover song is scheduled to be released next week is also super excited. Last week, we released a duet cover of Udayo Hawale by Sujan Gurung and Jyoti Tiwari which was received very well as well.”
“Overall, the performance of MNTV Hall of Fame has been very encouraging”, Rashaili said.
Hall of Fame aims to be a recurring series, and in its first edition features three artists of Nepali origin in Melbourne along with their cover videos. However, it has larger future plans. According to Mr. Rashaili, the second series will cover a larger scope of artists, and a wider geographical reach within Australia.
Mr. Rashaili has said MNTV Hall of Fame’s second season will feature six artists, and has encouraged other artists to reach out to MNTV Australia for the opportunity.
“Nepalis have a deep connection with music, and also have extraordinary talent”, Mr. Rashaili said while speaking to Nepalese Voice.
“Through Hall of Fame we are looking to provide media exposure and a platform to those artists with musical aspirations”, he added.
The first season of Hall of Fame is being supported by Ultimate Institute of Australia.
