A teacher has been charged over an alleged sexual relationship with a student at a high school in Sydney’s east.
In July 2019, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad established Strike Force Apparent to investigate reports of sexual relationship between a male teacher and female student.
Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 34-year-old man at a cafe in Mascot just before 10am on Friday 19 July 2019.
A search warrant was executed at a home on the Central Coast and several electronic and personal items were seized.
The man was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with 11 counts of sexual intercourse with person under care (between 17 years and under 18 years).
Police will allege in court that the man, who was a teacher at the time, engaged in sexual acts with the teenager, then aged 17, at homes in Randwick and the Central Coast, between April 2018 and October 2018.
He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Monday 26 August 2019).
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
