Victoria records 37 new cases of Covid-19, NSW records 6, and QLD 3

Victoria has recorded 37 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours on Saturday, maintaining a consistent number of low cases in the past week.

On Friday, Victoria said the state added 394 cases over the past week – a significant decrease from the 625 cases reported in the previous week.

Victoria, especially Melbourne, found itself at the centre of a second wave of Covid-19 infections in July. Melburnians were placed under strict Stage 4 Restrictions for six weeks (extended for another 2 weeks), while regional Victoria saw stage 3 restrictions. The strict lockdown has helped drive the number of cases down, but has battered Victoria’s economy. Last week, the federal government too urged Victoria to consider the economic impacts of the lockdown.

Regional Victoria is expected to see some easing of restrictions from next week, while Melbourne will spend 2 more weeks under Stage 4 restrictions.

Victoria also recorded six coronavirus related deaths in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, NSW recorded six new cases of Covid019 in the 24 hours to 8:00 pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW to 3,968.

Of the six new cases, one is a returned overseas traveller in hotel quarantine, and five are locally acquired and linked to a known case or cluster.

Queensland recorded three new cases of Covid-19. All three are linked to previous Covid-19 confirmations, and are isolating.
