Victoria has recorded 372 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours on Friday, up from 278 new cases of Thurday. However, Friday’s number does suggest the weeks long lockdown is helping in flattening Victoria’s curve.
Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said today he was confident Victoria had passed the peak in community transmission numbers.
“Today’s a bigger number than yesterday, and we don’t know what tomorrow will necessarily bring, but the trend is definitely downwards,” he said.
The state also reported 14 fatalities owing to Covid-19 overnight. According to Premier Daniel Andrews, 12 of the 14 deaths were connected to aged care outbreaks. One man in his twenties also passed away, Australia’s youngest casualty owing to Covid-19.
Meanwhile, neighbouring NSW reported 9 new cases of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours on Friday. Of the 9, 3 were in hotel quarantine and 5 were locally acquired. There is one case which has not yet been linked to a source.
