Woolworths and Coles have said they will be stepping up social distancing measures within their stores to ensure protection of public from coronavirus.
Both supermarket giants have said they will be limiting the number of customers inside the store at a particular point of time in interest of public health. Woolworths has assigned the responsibility of managing traffic to its store managers, whereas Coles is yet to announce its tactic.
“Our store managers will use common sense discretion to manage this in the interest of community safety,” Woolworths managing director Claire Peters said to national broadcaster ABC News.
Customers may have to queue outside the stores at designated places, and will have to await their turn. The changes could be implemented in the coming days and weeks.
