Ongoing Construction of Dharahara (Photos)

Construction of Dharahara underway in Kathmandu as seen on Thursday. The esrwhile nine-storied Dharahara was destroyed by the earthquake on April 25, 2015. It was 61.88 metres tall.

It was built in 1832 by Bhimsen Thapa under the commission of then Queen Lalit Tripurasundari and was recognized by UNESCO as a heritage site.

The new tower will have 24 stories, including two underground floors. 

The new Dharahara is being built in the same architectural style as the old one but it will have a larger diameter and will be 72 meters tall. It will also have two elevators along with the traditional stairs leading up to the top.
