A British court has sentenced a former Gurkha soldier to 14 years in prison for attempted murder of his wife.

Bikash Gurung inflicted such terrible injuries on his wife Kamana that both he and a policeman who attended the scene believed she was dead.

Miraculously, 37-year-old nurse Kamana survived fractures to her skull, jaw and neck and a nearly-severed finger following life-saving work by doctors.

Gurung, who served 23 years in the Gurkha Regiment before becoming a security guard, admitted attempted murder and was jailed for 14 years this week.

It is learnt that Kamana, who is a nurse by profession, found a boyfriend for herself through internet after she found out that her husband was having an extramarital affair. Kamana said that her husband attacked her on the day she was planning to talk about divorce.

According to Daily Mail online, Kamana called emergency number 999 and gave details of her husband hitting her earlier that day. While she was on the phone, her husband started beating her. The operator listened to her in the process. Kamana’s sound records were presented before the court.

Later Bikash himself made a call at 999 and told operator that he had killed his wife, according to the Daily Mail report.

The court verdict also banned Gurung from contacting his wife. The couple has two children aged eight and seven.
