Nepali owned/operated Niji Sushi Bar wins “Business Excellence award” by Randwick City Council

For the third time in a row, Niji Sushi Bar, a restaurant owned and operated by Nepalis, has won the ‘Outstanding Restaurant of the Year’, an award conferred by the Randwick City Council. The award is held every two years by the City Council and Niji Sushi Restaurant was a recipient in 2013 and 2015 as well. In the 2017 Business Excellence awards, Niji restaurant alongwith the ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ was also awarded the biggest title “Business of the Year”. ‘It was a honouring yet humbling experience’, said the restaurant owner who won the business award from 26 competing categories.

 

Randwick City Council consists of Chifley, Clovelly, Coogee, Kensington, Kingsford, La-Perouse, Philip Bay, Little Bay, Malabar, Maroubra, Matraville, and Randwick, clubbed together as Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. The total number of registered businesses are in the city are 12,159 and to emerge first among them is an achievement indeed.

The award gala was held in Randwick Race Course on the 1st of November attended by approximately 500 guests.

Talking to MNTV, Raj Khanal, restaurant operator said that he was unable to contain his excitement. He also said that this award adds responsibilities. His decision to open a Japanese restaurant was stemmed from his previous 5 years of working as a chef in a Japanese restaurant. Khanal is from Rupandehi, Nepal and also the president of Rupandehi Society Australia.
