Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that he would move to his private residence after two and a half years, completing the full term in office.
PM Oli made this remark during a meeting with the party’s leaders close to him at his Balkot-based private residence this afternoon.
Prime Minister Oli visited his private residence in Balkot, Bhaktapur, after concluding a meeting with another party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in Baluwatar.
PM Oli reached Balkot along with his wife Radhika Shakya. He stayed there for two and a half hours.
Former Communication Minister Gokul Baskota, Parliamentarian Mahesh Basnet and other party cadres who were close to him were present there.
Former minister Baskota has been staying at PM Oli’s private residence in Balkot as the house was lying vacant after the PM shifted to Baluwatar.
During his stay in Balkot, PM Oli also held a meeting with the Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, district police chief and officials of Nepali Army.
Earlier, PM Oli and Prachanda held talks aimed at resolving the party’s internal dispute. The meeting, which kicked off at 9:15 in the morning, lasted until 11:00 am, informed Ram Sharan Bajgain, press expert to PM Oli.
According to PM Oli’s Secretariat, today’s meeting was the continuation of Sunday’s meeting that had concluded on a positive note. However, the details of the meeting are yet to be disclosed.
Like earlier meeting, Chairmen Oli and Prachanda conversed over issues at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar in the presence of the party’s senior leader Jhalanath Khanal and deputy leader of the parliamentary party Subash Nembang.
Though Monday’s meeting between the chairmen duo was conducted positively and cordially, it has failed to reach a concrete agreement, said Bishnu Sapkota, Press Advisor of Chairman Prachanda.
Sapkota said the chairmen duo had agreed to continue discussions for finding solution to the prolonged intra-party disputes. The leaders of NCP believe that since the efforts are being made to iron out the differences, the two chairmen would soon reach a consensus.
The NCP has already decided to hold the party’s general convention from April 7 to 12, 2021. The intra-party feud deepened further after the SC meeting was convened unilaterally by the SC members close to Prachanda .
The intra-party differences reached the peak after the NCP leaders demanded for PM Oli’s resignation in the Standing Committee meeting held earlier.
However, PM Oli has been rejecting the demand stating that there was no ground to step down from both the posts of PM and party chair.
He has been claiming that stepping down from both the posts would be against the people’s mandate and jeopardise the sovereignty of the country.
The Standing Committee meeting was first called for June 24 amid growing intra-party dispute after a rival faction led by Chairman Dahal sought immediate resignation of PM Oli.
Since then the meeting has been deferred repeatedly as top leaders have failed to reach consensus on a power-sharing deal within the party.
