20% Discount In Consumer Goods From Today


The government-owned enterprises– Food Management and Trading Company (FMTC) and Salt Trading Corporation (STC) –have decided to sell various foods items and cooking gas giving 20 per cent discount from Friday.
As per the government announcement in its budget to offer 20 per cent discount in the food products being sold by the FMTC and STC, the two enterprises on Thursday decided to sell the consumers goods at 20 per cent discount from Friday.
In the budget statement, the government had decided to offer 20 per cent discount in the sale prices of rice, flour, pulses, salt, cooking oil, sugar and cooking gas sold by the FMTC and STC during the prohibition period.
A meeting of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supply, Food Management and Trading Company and Salt Trading Corporation on Thursday decided that the STC and the FMTC would provide the details of the items and their prices, which they would provide with discount.
The government has decided to determine the monthly quota of the consumer goods to be sold to the customers at the discounted rate.
According to the Ministry of Finance, 30 kg of rice and 2 kg of pulses from the FMTC will be provided at the concessional rate for a five-member family for a month.
Similarly, it has been decided to provide 2 kg of flour, 2 kg of sugar, 2 kg of salt, 1 liter of soybean cooking oil and 1 cylinder of cooking gas at the concessional rate from the STC.
A gas-filled cylinder will be available at Rs. 1,120 after the STC gives 20 per cent discount.
The government has also decided to prepare the details, including the identification documents of the customers who purchase the goods provided at concessional rates and to prepare the details of the discounts provided to the customers by both the companies on a monthly basis.
Finance Secretary Sishir Kumar Dhungana, Joint Secretaries of the Ministry of Finance Samun Dahal and Dhaniram Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies Prem Shrestha, Chief Executive Officer of FMTC Mohan Bahadur Chand and Deputy Executive Director of STC Kumar Rajbhandari were present in the meeting.
