22 Lawmakers Test Positive For Virus


At least 69 persons, including 15 lawmakers, 19 staffers of the parliament secretariat, six security personnel, personal security officials, parliamentary reporters and others tested positive for COVID-19 in swab tests conducted in the federal parliament secretariat on Friday.
Initial reports of the lab said that 69 swab samples from 613 collected in the parliament secretariat tested positive for coronavirus. More reports are yet to arrive from the national lab.
Parliament secretariat has collected swab samples of lawmakers, staff of the parliament secretary, security personnel and others as the session of parliament is scheduled for May 10.
Dr. Rojnath Pandey, secretary at the parliament secretariat, said that altogether 1,235 samples were collected for the lab test before the session, in which Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is seeking vote of confidence.
According to him, 22 lawmakers tested positive for coronavirus. “Lab test showed that 15 lawmakers were found infected with COVID-19 while seven lawmakers were already infected, which means altogether 22 lawmakers have contracted COVID -19 by Friday evening,” he said.
He also said that more reports were yet to come from the 1235 samples as only the results of 600 samples were received.
According to Pandey, 205 sample of lawmakers and 1,030 samples of others were sent to the national lab for test.
