319 Deaths In Rupandehi During Second Wave Of Infection

A total of 476 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the Rupandehi district till the date.

According to the District Health Office (DHO), Rupandehi, 319 deaths were recorded in the second wave of infection while 157 died during the first wave of COVID-19.

The district recorded 27,836 cases of COVID-19, of them 26,907 were recovered. During Mid-April this year, 9,329 cases were reported in the district.

In the duration of nine weeks, the cases increased by three times. With the prohibitory order imposed by the local levels coming into effect, the number of cases has started decreasing.

Now, the district has only 453 active cases, of which 92 patients have symptoms and are admitted to various health facilities and 361 are in home isolation. According to the data of the DHO, Rupandehi, among the deaths, 14 per cent were from the age group of 50-54 years and 16 per cent were aged above 70 years.

Similarly, 28.5 per cent were from the age group of 30-49 years and 2 per cent of them aged below 29 years. “We cannot be assured that the COVID-19 cases are decreasing as the PCR tests are also declining,” said DHO chief Dr Rajendra Giri.

Only the positivity rate has decreased to some extent, he added. Now, active cases are declining which means the virus is under our control, said Dr Giri adding that the prohibitory order had helped reduce the number of new cases. Risk will always be there if the administration does not implement the prohibitory order properly, said Dr Giri.

“We have noticed that the second wave of infection has created more awareness than the first one,” said Dr Giri, urging one and all to follow all the health protocols even though the cases were decreasing.
