57% Paddy Plantation Complete Across Nation


Paddy plantation is going on in full swing across the country, thanks to the timely and regular rainfall.
According to the statistics of the Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, paddy plantation has completed at around 56.61 per cent of land by Tuesday (July 6, 2021).
Out of 1.37 million hectares of paddy fields across the country, plantation has already been completed in 776,490 hectares so far.
“Paddy plantation activity across the country is moving in an encouraging way due to timely and regular rainfall everywhere,” said Dr. Mahadev Prasad Paudel, information office of the Department of Agriculture.
Paddy plantation has decreased slightly by 4 per cent at present compared to same period last year due to low rainfall in some districts. Plantation had completed at around 61.66 per cent of total paddy fields same period last year.
“Definitely, present scenario of fertiliser supply, monsoon and rainfall shows an encouraging progress in paddy plantation in the beginning of the season. However, further precipitation will determine the total paddy plantation area and production of this year,” he said.
He said that paddy production would be higher than last year if the monsoon helped and the floods did not affect the paddy fields. Last year, about 5.621 million tonnes paddy was produced.
Paddy plantation completed in about 56.70 per cent of paddy filed in the mountain region, 53.69 per cent in the hilly region and 57.64 per cent in the Terai, he said.
Paddy is grown in around 48,193 hectares of land in the mountain region, 346,099 hectares in the hilly region and 977,414 hectares in the Terai.
By now, paddy plantation has completed in the largest area of paddy field in Karnali Province followed by Lumbini and Sudurpashchim Province.
Paddy plantation has completed in 83.85 per cent of land in Karnali, 80.50 per cent in Lumbini and 75.54 per cent of total paddy field in Sudurpashchim till date.
Likewise, the lowest paddy plantation has been done in Gandaki Province where plantation has completed only in 30.57 per cent of the total paddy field.
Paddy plantation has completed in 46.56 per cent in Province-1, 39.28 per cent in Province-2 and 61.01 per cent in Bagmati.
