A dozen stolen sculptures from several parts of Nepal have put up at auction house of several nations for auction. The action was spotted by Lost Arts of Nepal which tracked the on-going auction at Bonham’s Auction, Paris of France, Kunsthaus Lempertz KG, Koln Germany, Koller Auctions, Zurich, Switzerland, Nagel Auctions, Stuttgart, Germany, Sotheby’s Auction, Paris, Dogny Auction, Lausanne, Switzerland and art auction house, DVC, Antwerp of Belgium.
Temple banner of 16th century has been put up at auction at Christie’s Auction of Paris, Torana depicting Buddha Skakyamuni with Attendants of 18th/19th century at Auction House, DVC Antwerp of Belgium, Buddha Shakyamuni of 14th/15 century at Nagel Auctions, Stuttgart, Germany, the stone sculpture of Hanuman of 19th century at Koller Auctions, Zurich, Switzerland and Dharmadhatu Vagisvara Paubha of 18th century at Kunsthaus LempertzKG, Koln Germany.
Other four stolen sculptures – Avalokiteshvara/ Lokeshwora of 11th -13th century, Garudasana Vishnu of 14th century, Bhairava with consort of 19th century and Buddha Dipankara head of 15th century – were spotted at Bonham’s Auction House of Paris.
These four sculptures will be put up at auction on December 15.
The wooden-made sculpture of Buddha Dipankara head in auction is priced € 20,000 to € 30,000. It was informed that Bonham’s Auction House had brought it from Norton Simon Museum of California of America in last June.
Paris based Nepali Ambassador has send a letter to the local administration asking the House to stop auction and to return them to the nation of their origin.
