A road in Lokanthali has given way after continuous rainfall battered the already weakened structure. The incident occurred on Monday evening. According to locals, while the rainfall caused the road to give way, the structure was already weak owing to ‘unchecked construction’ in the vicinity.
While several measures have been taken to prevent further erosion, five houses are in imminent danger of collapsing. The residents have moved away from their homes.
According to the local community, the road was in a precarious condition since last year’s monsoons – where a certain section of the road had already fallen off.
