Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the US government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact should be passed only with amendments.
Addressing the Lumbini Provincial level gathering of CPN (Unified Socialist)’s youth wing, Youth Association of Nepal and People’s Volunteers Declaration Programme in Nepalgunj on Saturday, Chairman Nepal said, “We have asked to make it clear that MCC has nothing to do with army and security and is only related to Nepal’s economic development.”
He further clarified that they were in favour of making an amendment in the MCC agreement as per the recommendation of the task force formed by the then CPN-UML under the coordination of former Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal.
In another context, Nepal said they were forced to form a new party after CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli left them no space in the party.
The rumour that his party would merge with the CPN-Maoist Centre and be subsumed by the Maoist party was wrong, he said, adding that Oli is trying to mislead the representatives.
He also asked them not to be misled. “They should not be misled by the 10-point unity proposal. The 10-point unity proposal is just intended to influence the Supreme Court decision on House of Representatives dissolution case.”
It was not a sincere effort for party unity but a trick, he added.
Talking about the recent development in the parliament, chairman Nepal remarked that a drama was being staged in the House.
