ATM Fraud: Another Chinese and 3 Nepalese arrested; Chinese Embassy expresses concern

Chinese Embassy in Nepal has expressed its concern over the arrest of five (plus 2) Chinese nationals for their involvement into hacking ATM booths in the country, while Nepal police have held three Nepalese citizens for exchanging Nepali currency into USD.

According to local Media, Feng Shaolin, the first secretary at the embassy paid a visit to Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu on Sunday evening and had a conversation with each arrestee in their native language.

Feng is reported to urge the MPR to conduct a fair investigation into the case which has defamed his land, reports local media.

The gang of five Chinese hackers were arrested on Saturday acting upon a tip off that a suspected foreigner trying to withdraw cash from a Nabil Bank ATM booth in Durbar Marg.

Similarly, upon the interrogation with the arrestees conducted aftermath, another Chinese national named Xu Luc Li was taken into custody from the Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday. He was going to board an aircraft bound to China.

Three Nepalese arrested:

Nepal police has arrested Roshan Shrestha, Rewati Dawadi and Debanath Lamichaane, the owners of Nepalaya Money Exchange and Deso Money Exchange. They were detained on Monday as a part of Police’s investigation into a recent ATM forgery case.

It is learnt that they exchanged millions of Nepali rupees to US dollar from there.

Police are investigating into the incident.
