Biplov Intensifies Meetings Following MCC Ratification

Following the endorsement of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact from the parliament, Netra Bikram Chanda ‘Biplov’, general secretary of Nepal Communist Party, has intensified meetings with the leaders of different parties who stood against the MCC.

Biplov held a discussion with CPN (Maoist Center) senior leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Wednesday morning and by Thursday afternoon he held meetings with five different leaders of both the ruling and opposition parties.

On Wednesday morning, Biplov reached Shrestha’s private residence at Hattiban and then reached Bhaktapur to meet Narayan Man Bijukchhe, Chairman of Nepal Workers Peasants Party.

In the meeting with Bijukchhe, Biplov discussed a protest programme against the MCC.

During the meeting with Jhalanath Khanal, a senior leader of CPN (Unified Socialist) and also former Prime Minister, on Wednesday itself at Khanal’s residence at Dallu, Biplov stressed unity among the nationalist forces as the MCC was against the interest of the country.

On Thursday, Biplov met with Bhim Rawal, leader of the main opposition CPN (UML) and Krishna Bahadur Mahara, spokesperson of the CPN (Maoist Center).

In the meeting with Rawal, Biblov focused on the need for nullifying the MCC, according to Asal Chhetri, central committee member of the Nepal Communist Party, who accompanied Biplov during these meetings.  During the meeting with Mahara, Biplov lobbied for bringing the nationalist revolutionary forces together and compelling nullification of the MCC through the strength of the protest.

Protesting the ratification of the MCC, eight political parties including that of Biplov have announced protest programmes starting from 4 to 20 March.
