Consumer Price Inflation Down To 4.19%


The consumer price inflation has marginally decreased during the eleventh month of the fiscal year 2020/21.
According to the current macroeconomic and financial report published by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday, the year-on-year (y-o-y) consumer price inflation stood at 4.19 per cent in the eleventh month (mid-June) of the current fiscal year compared to 4.54 per cent a year ago.
Food and beverage inflation stood at 6.22 per cent whereas non-food and service inflation stood at 2.63 per cent during that period.
The price of ghee and oil, tobacco products, non-alcoholic drinks, and transportation sub-groups rose by 30.98 per cent, 9.84 per cent, 9.81 per cent and 9.70 per cent respectively on y-o-y basis.
In the review month, the Kathmandu Valley, Terai, Hill and Mountain witnessed 3.87 per cent, 4.47 per cent, 4.32 per cent and 1.72 per cent inflation respectively.

These regions had witnessed 4.43 per cent, 4.86 percent, 4.13 per cent and 4.34 percent inflation respectively a year ago.
The y-o-y wholesale price inflation stood at 9 per cent in the review month compared to 3.96 per cent a year ago, NRB said.
The y-o-y wholesale price of consumption goods, intermediate goods and capital goods increased by 9.65 per cent, 9.53 per cent and 3.92 per cent respectively.
The wholesale price of construction materials increased by 8.16 per cent in the review month.
The y-o-y salary and wage rate index increased by 1.98 per cent in the review month.
Such growth rate was 7.40 per cent a year ago. In the review month, wage rate index increased by 2.56 per cent.
Remittance up by 12.6%
The remittance inflows increased by 12.6 per cent to Rs. 870.94 billion during the review period against a decline of 3.2 per cent in the same period of last fiscal year.
In the US dollar terms, remittance inflows increased by 10.4 per cent to 7.39 billion in the review period against a decrease of 5.2 per cent in the same period of the previous year.
Number of Nepali workers (institutional and individual-new and legalized) taking approval for foreign employment decreased by 59.9 per cent in the review period.
It had decreased by 12.4 per cent in the same period of the previous year.

Net transfer increased by 11.4 per cent to Rs. 971.04 billion in the review period. Such a transfer had decreased by 3.9 per cent in the same period of the previous year.
