COVID-19: Daily update from Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population


Dr. Bikash Devkota, Speaker for the Ministry of Health and Population appeared on Facebook Live for the day’s media briefing. Here are a few updates:

Total no. of tests done: 1060
No. of tests in past 24 hours:67

No. of people in isolation: 10 in Kathmandu, 77 in different provinces
(on suspicion of coronavirus, tests either yet to be done, or results are awaited)

Contact Tracing: 

Of the four confirmed cases, the government has completed the contact tracing of 2 passengers, while 80% of the other two passengers is complete.

Note: While the number of current cases are 4, two had come aboard the same aircraft – which essentially means contact tracing of 3 aircraft is necessary. As per the data, if two is incomplete, then it can be safely said that one aircraft’s contact tracing has been completed.

Testing Machines: 

Dharan: Installed and in operation.
Pokhara: Installed and in operation.
Dhangadhi: Reached, yet to be installed.
Janakpur: En route.
Butwal: Plans to send.
Surkhet: Plans to send.

Test Results of decaesed patients:

Butwal: Negative
Patan Hospital: Negative
Bir Hospital: Both negative

MoHP Appeal: 

“A patient can be suffering from fever too – it does not have to be COVID-19. We request emergency services at hospitals to not deny treatment requests from ailing patients. If you deny medical attention, the fever could worsen and the patient could die”.
