The Department of Customs has taken a step to ease the process of clearance of COVID-19 related medical items in custom points.
It issued a Custom Procedure ‘Prompt inspection of goods related to prevention and treatment of COVID-19-2078’ to expedite the process of customs clearance easily.
It will help logistics companies in faster delivery of the medical items and equipment at custom points.
According to the procedure, importers will have to go through the regular procedure along with required documents declaring it essential items.
The customs officer can clarify the clearance process if required documents are submitted however such documents be submitted later.
Importers can submit such documents through electronic mediums. The procedure has complied officials to give top priority to essential items. For this, the head of the custom can establish a dedicated unit and mobilize the staff.
The head of the custom office will have to continue the clearance process even before and after the officials’ hours including the holidays. It has provisioned that the quality of items must be verified. The clearance process will proceed only after verification of the quality of the items.
Liquid oxygen, oxygen cylinder, oxygen concentrator tank, and cylinder valve along with other the two dozen items are included in essential items for COVID- 19 in the procedure.
