Dasarath Stadium unfit to host World Cup qualifiers

Incomplete reconstruction work at the Dasrath Stadium in Kathmandu has caused the second leg of Nepal’s World Cup and Asia Cup joint qualifiers match against Kuwait to be held in a neutral venue.

As per the original fixture, Nepal was scheduled to host the match with Kuwait on September 19. But, the home fixture has been canceled owing to the lack of an international stadium fit enough to host the match.

All Nepal Football Association made the announcement through its official Facebook page. “We regret to inform that Nepal will play Kuwait at neutral venue in their upcoming Asian Qualifiers Group B ties for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 clash.”

Representatives from the Asian Football Confederation had inspected the stadium on November 5 and deemed it unfit to host the match. The stadium is currently undergoing renovation after it sustained serious damages in the 2015 earthquake.

Through a press release on Thursday, ANFA informed that it has requested the AFC and FIFA to shift the match to Changlimithang Stadium in Bhutan.
