Dashain festival ends

The 15-day Dashain festival has formally ended with the marking of the Kojagrat Purnima on Sunday.

As the full moon rose in the sky in the night, the auspicious lights (Mahadeep Jyoti) were lit in the temples including Swyambhu in Kathmandu.

The soil collected for Ghatsthapana and jamaras grown were duly immersed in the rivers. Devotees offer worships to Mahalaxmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, at their homes and they keep vigil the whole night on the day of Kojagrat Purnima.

It is believed that the goddess Mahalaxmi takes a trip around the world on the night of Kojagrata Purnima to check as to who is observing the vigil on this particular night. After the Kojagrat Purnima, it is customary to light a skylight (Aakash Dip) every evening till the day of Kartik Shukla Purnima.
