Indian national Monty Desai has been appointed the head coach of the national men’s cricket team.
According to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Desai was appointed today after the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Council endorsed the decision of the CAN to appoint him.
This will be Desai’s third involvement with the Nepali cricket team, who was the batting consultant of the Nepali U-19 team in 2017. Before that, he had also worked for the national cricket team during the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup qualifiers.
Prior to this, Desai was working as a batting coach in the West Indies for the last three years. A total of 24 people applied following a call for application by the CAN for the post of the national coach of the Nepali national cricket team.
Desai replaces fellow Indian Manoj Prabhakar, who resigned as the head coach.
Nepal is currently preparing for the triangular one-day series as part of the ICC Men’s World Cup Cricket League Two tournament. The tournament featuring Nepal, Scotland and Namibia is being held in Nepal from coming February 14. (RSS)
