CPN-Maoist Center Central Committee Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal held a meeting with Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar today to talk about holding all-party discussions regarding the Millennium Challenge Corporation Nepal Compact and resolving CPN-UML’s House obstruction blockade, among other issues.
According to Dahal’s personal secretary Ramesh Malla, the two leaders discussed ways to resolve ongoing House obstruction and MCC ratification. Prime Minister Deuba reportedly agreed that an all-party meeting was necessary to resolve contemporary political issues.
The main opposition party CPN-UML has been obstructing parliament sessions alleging that Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota had discriminated against the UML by refusing to expel 14 UML lawmakers against whom the party had taken action.
Amid continuing protests by the UML lawmakers, Speaker Sapkota had earlier put off the House meeting till December 20.
Similarly, the government is planning to table the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement in parliament for endorsement.
Meanwhile, Dahal also drew the Prime Minister’s attention towards the action taken by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) against players of the national cricket team.
Stating that the action taken against the cricketers had sent wrong message, Dahal requested the Prime Minister to reconsider the decision.
CAN had ousted national team captain Gyanendra Malla and vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airi on December 15. CAN’s board meeting on Wednesday decided to take action against four players of the national team.
The meeting made the decision as per the recommendation of the committee formed under the chairmanship of CAN acting secretary Prashant Bikram Malla.
Recently, the dispute between the national cricketers including the captain/vice-captain and CAN had escalated. The meeting has removed Gyanendra and Dipendra from their posts and decided not to allow them, along with senior members of the team Sompal Kami and Kamal Singh Airi, to participate in the Central Contract for the first six months of 2022. The meeting has selected Sandeep Lamichhane as the new captain of the national team.
