Dhanush Yagya performed on 3rd day of Vivah Panchami

Janaki Mandir is a Hindu temple in Janakpur in the Mithila region of Nepal, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Sita.

As part of the week-long Vivah Panchami celebration, the Dhanush Yagya (Bow Oblation) was performed in Janakpurdham on Friday.

The ceremony was held on the premises of the Janaki Temple on the third day of the celebration. The Yagya is supposed to mark the day Ram lifted and broke Lord Shiva’s bow in the court of King Janak, Sita’s father.

On the second day, which was Thursday, the Phulbaare Leela (Flower Garden Tale) was staged in the garden of the Vivah Mandap. Similarly, on the first day, on Wednesday, the Nagar Darshan ceremony was held. Vivah Panchami is held every year to commemorate the day Goddess Sita married Lord Ram in the Treta Yuga. This year, the day has fallen on Monday.

Every year, a marriage procession of Ram arrives in Janakpurdham from Ayodhya, India for the occasion. This time though, spiritual leader and Minister for Tourism of the Uttarakhand state of our southern neighbour Satpal Maharaj is also coming with the procession.

He is scheduled to arrive on Sunday and will participate in the Vivah Panchami ceremonies on Monday.
