Representatives of the eighth General Convention of the CPN (Maoist Center) are presently engaged in discussions over the political report presented by party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

The report is being studied in 25 different groups of representatives.

Representatives involved in the discussions have remarked that the report carries the essence of socialism in the 21st century.

Here is a synopsis of the views of some of the representatives:

A two-digit central committee

Jagat Simkhada is coordinating the discussion in the 19th group, which comprises representatives from Valley special province. He said that most representatives were of the view that the central committee should be within two digits, that is no more than 99. On MCC, the representatives demanded more clarity in the document, he said. The representatives are also of the view that the report should be more clear about the change in the party’s internal life and its present status through a rigorous self-review. He said most representatives made it a point that the implementation of the constitution was getting hitches as the party has become weak. The representatives also stressed unity with other revolutionary forces with which party’s ideology matches.

He said serious discussions were also held on the impact of global capitalism and imperialism on climate change and the degree of the positive and negative aspects of the role of the NGOs and INGOs.

Focus on making the movement more revolutionary

Bishnu Pukar Shrestha has been coordinating the discussion over the report by the party representatives from the party’s central commissions including the election and discipline commissions. He said the representatives were raising questions and holding discussions on issues related to ways to make the present situation of the communist movement more revolutionary, on ways to party cadres with the people, on ways to understand means of production while moving forward to socialism.

Discussion over globalization and climate change

Saral Sahayatri is coordinating the discussion over the report by the party representatives to the General Convention from the Bagmati Province.
