On the first day of the closed session of the 8th general convention of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) on Monday, party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda presented his political report ‘The path to socialism in the 21th century’.
The main aspect of the report is preparing for peaceful revolution in a continuous and systematic manner and being accountable towards ground-level people, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, spokesperson for the CPN (MC), said in a press briefing after Monday’s session.
“Socialism is possible through peaceful revolution, we are committed to the proletariats, and the revolution is continuing in a systematic manner,” Mahara briefed as the main essence of the chairman’s document.
The report said that socialist revolution could complete peacefully by building a broad mass of the people and by building people’s organisations, he said.
The closed session formed different 25 groups to discuss the report presented by chairman Prachanda.
It has scheduled to discuss the report in different places like Nepal Academy, Parisdanda party office and at different party palaces.
The groups will discuss the report separately on Tuesday and the group leaders will present their conclusion from Wednesday, Lekhnath Neupane, leader of the party, informed.
Earlier, the closed session formed a seven-member presidium under Krishna Bahadur Mahara with Girirajamani Pokharel, Ganesh Shah, Parashuram Tamang, Purna Kumari Subedi, Parashuram Ramtel and Rupa Maharjan as its members.
Likewise, leader Dev Prasad Gurung presented the statue amendment proposal of the party in the closed session on Monday.
In the amended draft of the statue, it has been proposed that the party’s central committee will have 299 members and the office bearers will include chairman, senior vice chairperson, six vice chairpersons, general secretary, two deputy general secretaries, three secretaries and 15 members including the treasurer.
Provision has been made for 35 per cent representation of women, 15 per cent representation of Dalits and 5 per cent representation of Muslims in the central committee.
Likewise, 20 per cent representation of youth aged under 40 years from all groups has been made mandatory. In the amendment proposal, it is proposed that the central committee nominates 10 per cent and inclusive representation in office bearers and committees at all levels is ensured, said leader Gurung.
The eighth national general convention of the party which began on Sunday will continue till Thursday. The party is preparing to set its upcoming tactics as “socialism” from the 21st century’s democracy.
