District Court sentences Manoj Pandey for seven years in prison for rape and human trafficking

Kathmandu District Court has termed Manoj Pandey to a seven-year prison term on charges of sexually abusing a minor and human trafficking.

The information officer at the district court, Deepak Dahal, informed that Pandey has also been ordered to pay Rs 75,000 as compensation to the victim.

On June 2022, Kathmandu District Attorney’s Office filed two separate cases against Pandey demanding a jail term of 18 years for child sexual abuse and human trafficking.

A single bench of justice Deepak Dhakal on January 24 had sentenced Pandey to six months in jail and ordered him to pay Rs 50,000 in compensation to the victim in a child sexual abuse case, however, it had not determined the jail term even though he was also convicted on human trafficking case.

Pandey was arrested on May 21, 2021, after the survivor took to social media claiming she was sexually abused by Pandey some eight years ago – when she was 16 years old. She stated that Pandey had drugged and raped her in a hotel room and also clicked photos and videos which were again used to repeatedly sexually abuse her for six months.
