Doctors attacked in Dadeldhura, suspend services demanding action against attackers

Dadeldhura District Hospital has announced suspension of all services (except emergency services) after being attacked by locals yesterday. Doctors/nurses/staff at Dadeldhura District Hospital are reported to have been increasingly attacked by locals – just a few weeks ago the hospital was vandalized and on-duty doctors manhandled after a woman died during delivery. The hospital then too had protested, resuming regular services only a week ago.

This time however, doctors were attacked by locals for delaying a post-mortem process. A mob headed by Amargadhi municipality, ward no. 11 chair Surya Prakash Khadka on Wednesday afternoon had manhandled doctors who were performing post-mortem, informed doctors issuing a press release following the incident.

“We cannot come back to routine service until actions are taken against the assaulters”, the release added.

Police had taken the dead body of Ramesh Khadka, a local of Amargadhi municipality-11, Sallaghari, to the hospital for post-mortem at 11.30 am on Wednesday. The irate Khadka-led crowd had taken away the dead body while the post-mortem was not completed, the press release noted.

The press release issued by Dr Jeevan Kharel, acting medical superintendant of the hospital, stated that the mob had made abusive remarks, manhandled and also pelted stones at on-duty doctors.
