Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and in-charge of the Area Police Office, Butwal Thag Bahadur KC was taken into police custody for interrogation from his residence Sunday night.
A special police squad deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, Kathmandu, detained him along with 35 tolas of gold and cash Rs. 850,000 and cheque amounting to Rs. 950,000 from his residence, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamal Thapa, the spokesperson for the CIB, said.
Inspector General of Nepal Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh instructed to deploy a team of the CIB from Kathmandu for an investigation after the IGP’s Secretariat received complaints against DSP KC.
A team led by an DSP of the CIB has been interrogating him taking him under the control at the Bhairahawa District Police Office, SP Thapa said.
A gold businessman of Butwal has lodged a complaint that DSP KC has been asking for bribe to settle the cases relating to the seized gold.
“A complaint has been filed against the DSP at the police headquarters, and an investigation into him is underway,” said SP Thapa.
On December 19, DSP KC was transferred to the District Police Office Kaski by the Police Headquarters. Even though he was transferred to Kaski, he was dillydallying to receive the transfer letter. Meanwhile, a complaint was filed against him at the police headquarters for asking bribe.
After seizing 35 tolas of gold of a businessmen in Butwal, DSP KC was bargaining for money without proceeding ahead with the case. vAccording to sources, there was an agreement to return the gold after receiving cash, but he was arrested before he could return the gold to the businessman.
