The Election Commission (EC) has approved the election schedule of proportional representation (PR) category for the election of House of Representatives (HoR) and provincial assemblies slated for November 20.
The election programmes for the PR electoral system for the members of HoR and provincial assemblies will kick off from August 24, said the EC.
Issuing a press statement on Thursday, EC’s Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel said from Wednesday’s meeting the commission approved the election programmes for the PR electoral system.
The EC will publish a notice on August 24 regarding the applications from the political parties willing to take part in the election of HoR and provincial assemblies under the PR electoral system.
The parties willing to take part in the election have to submit their applications from August 26-28, said Poudel, adding, “The EC scheduled to publish the final list of the political parties taking part in the election on August 31 and to grant the election symbols.”
The political parties will be given 18 days (August 31-September 17) to prepare closed list of their candidates for the election under PR electoral system. The EC has slated September 18-19 for the political parties to submit the closed list of candidates.
The tenure of the House of Representatives and the provincial assemblies will end after the parties submit their closed lists.
Similarly, from September 20-25, the EC will investigate on the closed lists of the candidates and inform the parties to correct the closed lists if needed. The political parties are given seven days (September 26 to October 2) to submit the amended closed lists of the candidates.
Poudel informed that the EC has schedule to publish the notice of the closed lists of candidates on October 8.
The final list of the closed lists of candidates will be published on October 26 by examining claims and objections, the statement reads.
