Education Minister directs NEB to prepare online exam facility for Grade XII students

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel has instructed the National Examination Board (NEB) to make preparations so that Grade XII students from across the country can take their board exam online.

Such a system is aimed at facilitating exam candidates to take their tests from their current location. Thousands of people have moved to their hometowns from their temporary residences after the government imposed a national lockdown in March keeping in mind the spread of COVID-19.

On Wednesday, Pokharel during a discussion program instructed the board officials to ensure that the students could attend the exam from their current location and in compliance of proper health safety protocols in case they are unable to reach their exam centers.

Pokharel also instructed concerned schools/colleges to provide mobile data to the students in case they don’t have access to internet facility to sit for the exam, said Binod Neupane, a member of Pokharel’s secretariat.

Secretary at the Ministry Gopinath Mainali, Chairman of the Board Dr Chandra Mani Poudel, Member Secretary Durga Prasad Aryal, and Joint Secretary of the Ministry Deepak Sharma were present at the discussion that decided to make the education development and coordination units more effective.

Preparations are on full swing to conduct Grade XII board exam after Chhat festival. The exam, which was originally scheduled to be held in April, was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and will be conducted from November 24 to December 1.

The format of marking the answer papers has been slightly tweaked this time, as the written exams will account for only 40 percent of the total marks whereas internal assessment will account for 20 percent marks and remaining 40 percent marks will be evaluated from Grade XII scores.

The examination schedule made public by NEB has requested candidates infected with COVID-19 to not participate in the exam as separate arrangements will be made for such candidates later.
